Why Does B-Town Throw Fake Success Bashes For Flop Films?

The definition of 'success bashes' seems to have changed in Bollywood - and by a large margin, at that. The last time we checked, your movie had to be a bonafide hit before you popped open the bubbly. However, nowadays filmmakers have obliterated that basic requirement. Success or no success, we will throw a party. Inexplicable, sorry, laughable.

The latest case in point is the success bash of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insaan's MSG: The Messenger 2. Let alone the party, the makers even proclaimed that the film grossed over Rs. 190 crore worldwide.

Sure, why not? After all, they had even claimed that the first instalment was a hit and indulged in big-time revelry over it. Sadly, the reality was entirely different. SpotboyE had carried out a sting operation where we found that all the theatres screening MSG: The Messenger Of God were downright empty.

So what exactly was the brouhaha over?

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is not the only one. Let's look at some past examples where filmmakers proudly threw success bashes for flop films.

Hero

Salman Khan's second home production, after Bajrangi Bhaijaan, didn't set the cash registers ringing. However, the Dabangg star threw a lavish success bash for his finds- Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty. Moral obligation?

Alone

Bipasha Basu's scare fest Alone hardly made its presence felt at the box-office - it was out of the theatres in no time. The only positive thing that emerged out of the Bhushan Patel-directed movie was that Bips found love in her co-star, Karan Singh Grover. So we wonder what the makers of Alone were celebrating when they threw a party.

Kill Dil

You remember Kill Dil? We don't blame you if you don't. The Ranveer Singh, Parineeti Chopra, Govinda and Ali Zafar starrer hardly saw any footfalls. But Ranveer, Ali and a few others associated with the movie had a success bash.

Zid

The movie created a lot of buzz as it marked the debut of Priyanka Chopra's cousin Mannara
in Bollywood. However, even PeeCee's constant attempt at promoting the film failed to draw the masses to the theatres. The actress even attended its success bash, which didn't do much to change the fate of the movie.

Humshakals

Sajid Khan felt his Humshakals was the best comedy to have come out in years. Never mind that its lead actor Saif Ali Khan publicly dissed the movie. Or one of the lead actresses Bipasha Basu stayed away from promoting it. Even the audience gave the movie a cold shoulder. But the director threw a success bash and not surprisingly, it wasn't even attended by half the cast.

Finding Fanny

Despite being a well-made film, this Arjun Kapoor-Deepika Padukone starrer opened to empty theatres. But the optimistic makers chose to celebrate the movie's collections (or the lack of it). Yep, we're talking about the same party where everyone - from Deepika to Ranveer Singh to producer Dinesh Vijan - was seen kissing each other.

Revolver Rani

Kangana Ranaut got it bang on with Queen. But can someone please tell her that her next release, Revolver Rani bit the dust. Clearly, Kangana didn't get the memo because she threw a party at her then-newly bought apartment to celebrate the film.

Phata Poster Nikhla Hero

Shahid Kapoor's career witnessed a turning point in the form of Haider and he's now become one of the most sought-after actors of B-town. But not too long ago, even this good-looking actor was not above these promotional tactics. His Phata Poster Nikhla Hero was a disaster at the box-office but Shahid showed up at the film's bash. Was that your defence mechanism at work, Shahid?
